A recent speaker was Alex Melson, Senior Green Space Development Officer at Harpenden Town Council. His remit covers 233 acres, 31,000 trees, the green spaces on the High Street and the whole of the common, but also a number of other locations around the town. Some spaces are as small as Leyton Green but others significantly bigger, including Batford Springs and Rothamsted Park. Improving and maintaining these areas, not only for the enjoyment of our community but also to focus on biodiversity, are his major challenges. Alex highlighted the valuable help given in his work by volunteers, including many from this club.
